HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR: THE PLANT MOM
I recently started getting more into plants. Honestly, I wish my plant obsession would have started a few years earlier, when I still lived in South Florida and could have learned so much from my Grandma and her garden. But. I had to figure things out the hard way (that means I killed a lot of plants...) and now I feel like I've gotten the hang of it, although I'm still not a pro. I've been compiling a list of things I'd want, and figured I should share it with you, since a lot of you who follow along with my day-to-day life really like stickin' around when I talk about my plant babies. So, here it is. A complete holiday gift guide for the plant mom, the plant dad, plant enthusiast or plant newbie 101. It's all here.
Something I've learned is that in the process of becoming Plant Mom, you've gotta kill a few plants to really master their true care techniques. Don't nod your head no, I know you've murdered a plant or two in your day. So here's what you do: you cut off a clipping of one, ideally when you first get it, and start propagating it. So that by the time you figure out your plant, you'll have a second one starting to grow! I've loved learning about propagating and since most of what I try to grow needs good lighting, (meaning they need to be front and center in my living room) it's important that my propagation station looks pleasing to the eyeballs, you feel me? This one is super cute.
2. Plant Mister
Ah, the plant mister. Probably the easiest gift of all time, because you can honestly never have too many of them. I love this one (I have it in red) because the misting power is powerful and has a wide reach. I leave it on my desk at work, and it gives the illusion as if I'm really putting some effort into my office decor.
This is the exact grow light I've been raving about on my stories. I love that it's a white light, so you can easily replace any lamp or bulb with it and no-one would know except for your happy, growing plants. This light is a game changer for me, and paired with a smart switch for a timer, I'm able to have all sorts of plants growing in any location in my home. My fiddle leaf fig was such a diva with light, and ever since I started using this bulb about 2 months ago, I have so much new growth. And the best part? The largest leaf on that plant is the new one that just grew from this grow light. Pretty miraculous if you ask me.
These were the first pruning shears I purchased, and I did a ton of research on them before buying. I truly love them because they cut through the thick stalks of my peace lily like butter. I also tend to have bad wrists (from playing piano for so many years) and I need to use all things ergonomic. I was worried that this would make my hand cramp, but it honestly doesn't. Highly recommend.
This moisture meter was a true lifesaver when I first began my plant mom journey (and honestly, even now as I invite new varieties of plants into my home). It measures pH, moisture in the soil, AND lighting. It also comes with an index card on the optimal conditions of various plants so you don't have to google it. I credit this moisture meter for keeping Fergie the Fiddle Leaf Fig alive for all these months...
I saw these floating around instagram and I'm really glad I found them. Although they're not as attractive to the eye, they are really great at watering high to reach plants on a shelfie. By squeezing the bottle, it allows for a slow release of water, so its great if you tend to overwater.
These need no description. They are beautiful and they come in a pack of two! Perfect for succulents or high-humidity-loving plants.
This indoor watering can is totally on my personal wish list. I love how sleek it looks and since the handle comes all the way down to the base of the can, it's easy to use when watering those high to reach plants on plant hangers or high shelves. I love the copper look of it, so it's great if you want to leave it out on display.
Are you even a real plant mom if you don't have a plant mom pin? No, I didn't think so.
10. Plant Mom Tee
This shirt makes me so happy because I personally love linework in art so much. And the neutral color of it is perfect for pairing with a knit cardigan and jeans.
These sweet origami-looking planters come in a set of 4, and you can have them all together like in the photo above, or separate them. I love the wood detail in the bottom and the clean lines all around.
12. Terrarium Candle
If you love candles, and you love plants, you're welcome. These are so sweet and would be so relaxing to burn in a space where maybe you can't have many plants in, like a dark office or basement.
I love the idea of having little details of plants in unexpected places, like this ring dish you can leave on your nightstand or in the bathroom.
For those of you who are trying to increase humidity in the air so your plants can thrive, I recommend this humidity tray. If you don't have the space to add a humidifier, this should do the trick.
Running out of space for plant pots? Put them on the wall, duh.
16. Plant Mama Shirt
This is one of my all-time favorite shirts. It's so simple, and the color is so sweet!
This is such a neat concept. The growing candle is 100% pure soy and colorant-free, uses phthalate-free fragrances and essential oils, has a cotton wick and is made in a reusable ceramic plant pot. Once you have burned your candle down, you can plant the recycled seed paper labels which contain wild flowers. I love how organic and eco-friendly this brand is. It's a bit on the pricier end, but when you think of the benefits to the environment and the fact that the pot is reusable, it really is worth it.
I made an effort to keep this list budget friendly for easy gifting. Do you have any other items you've seen or own that would be great to gift this holiday? Drop a comment below!
